Change Starts with Us
Young People’s Academy proudly participated in Anti-Bullying Week with a range of activities throughout the week to mark this year’s theme: Change Starts with Us.
The staff and students came to school on Odd Socks Day with some interesting sock choices to celebrate what makes us all unique. Martin, our in-house photographer from Year 10, took pictures of their socks to mark the occasion and capture the sentiment of the day.
In PSHE lessons and form time students had the opportunity to speak openly about bullying. In form time they learnt about personal space, boundaries and touch. Measuring our ‘personal space bubble’ was a fun way to visualise the topic, and proved to be another way that students learnt that everyone is different.
The week finished with an anti-bullying assembly. Students looked at different types of bullying and how they affect people, before taking part in a fun group activity. Everyone wrote their names on paper and others wrote what they liked about them. Everyone left assembly feeling really good having read the positive things their peers see in them. They even wrote positive messages about the teachers so everyone left the week feeling positive.
