DfE Strategic School Improvement Fund Success!

Over the summer we received news that Hillingdon local authority’s application to the DfE Strategic School Improvement Fund (SSIF), with The Skills Hub and Young Peoples Academy as Lead Partner in the project, was successful. This is fantastic news as the bid was only one of three in the whole North, South and West London region to be successful in this very challenging application process.

The successful SSIF project is called SCERTS for Learning and is planned to be a coordinated joint school improvement initiative, embodying a network model, led by Laurie Cornwell,  Executive Principal of The Skills Hub and Young People’s Academy, with the Local Authority Inclusion team facilitating the project work and overall development of each school.

The aim of the project is to improve whole-school practice in the teaching and support in Social Communication and Emotional Regulation through effective Transactional Support (SCERTS). This will enhance the learning and well-being of all children and young people, but namely those with ASD or SEMH as their primary need. This development programme will enable adults to provide effective support enabling them to reach their full potential.

The 35 mainstream schools and academies participating in the project will be divided into four networks with a Lead school for each network, who will coordinate and champion the project. These networks will provide a cross – school learning opportunity, utilising the skills existing and developed through the project in each school to ensure the highest impact from the initiative.

YPA has a good understanding and built a rapport with my son. He has been happy and well cared for to the point where he has met his full potential and thrived. The right balance and structure has provided for my son’s complex needs. Thank you for your continuous support.  Parent
