World Mental Health Day
This year, for World Mental Health Day, students and staff from Young People’s Academy took part in wearing something yellow to raise awareness of children and young people’s mental health. We put up posters around the school ahead of the day and everyone came in with at least one yellow item, from tops/shirts to trousers to socks to hair accessories!
During our form time in the morning, each form class read through fact-sheets about different mental health disorders and statistics for children and young people in the UK. Some classes watched short YouTube clips on musicians and rappers who have spoken out about suffering personally with their own mental health and helped them to see that nobody should be afraid to speak out and ask for help with whatever they are going through.
It was a successful day and it was great to see everybody get involved!
